Deputy Minister Buti Manamela visits Eersterust with National Youth Development Agency, 11 Aug

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will tomorrow pay a visit to the community of Eersterust, East of Pretoria. 

The community of Eersterust appealed to President Jacob Zuma to intervene in one of the biggest challenges that face the community. The challenge of drug addiction and drug lords who operate in the in the community and cause a number of social ills to the detriment of young people.

The health of young people and combating of substance abuse is one of the pillars of the National Youth Policy 2020. This is one if the interventions that government will embark on to ensure that young people are kept safe from the scourge of drug abuse so that they are able to reach their full potential. 

Deputy Minister Manamela together with local leadership will therefore meet with community leaders. The meeting will discuss the implementation of various programmes that can ensure that young people are diverted from the snare of substance abuse.

Deputy Minister will prior to the visit address the Young Professionals Sustainability Imbizo hosted by Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA). Deputy Minister will engage with delegates on ways in which engineering as a scarce skill can offer sustainable job creation opportunities for young people. 

The Imbizo will take place at the Premier Hotel in Kempton Park at 10h00.
