Deputy Minister Buti Manamela visits Bhuko Bami Youth Centre, 24 Jun

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will tomorrow 24 June pay a visit to the Bhuko Bami Youth Centre in Soweto. The Youth Centre, amongst others provides after-school learning programmes to high school learners and skills development facilities to out of school youth.

The visit is part of the Deputy Minister's youth month programme which focuses on the implementation of the National Youth Policy 2020 under the theme "Youth moving South Africa forward”.

Bhuko Bami Centre also aims to provide a conducive environment for the development, upliftment and empowerment of disadvantaged youth in Soweto. Young people are vulnerable to social ills such as teenage pregnancy, substance and alcohol abuse and dropping out of school due to structural challenges in the in the community.

This initiative is therefore in line with the vision of the National Youth Policy, for young people to be provided an enabling ground for development through various means including the provision of recreational facilities for diversion from the social ills that they may encounter.

In this regard Deputy Minister will interact with learners at the Centre and be briefed on the positive impact that the Center has made since its launch at the beginning of youth month.
