Deputy Minister Manamela to address a research colloquium on making TVET Colleges institutions of choice of choice

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr. Buti Manamela to open a two-day Research Colloquium at the Premier Hotel in Kempton Park on Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in collaboration with its entities, the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), the three Quality Councils, and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is hosting the 2023 Research Colloquium on Making Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges Institutions of Choice: Recommendations from the DHET TVET Research Programme.  The Department has partnered with the Institute of Post-School Studies (IPSS) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) on this Colloquium with funding from the National Skills Fund (NSF).

The Research Colloquium will promote dialogue and focus on making TVET Colleges Institutions of Choice; identify gaps and provide recommendations to make TVET Colleges Institutions of Choice. The Colloquium also aims to deepen the conversation around Post School Education and Training (PSET) amongst stakeholders by sharing research findings and promoting research utilization.

The five-year research programme commenced in 2019 and will conclude in 2024 focuses on over 30 projects on TVET related issues and covers a range of themes such as an overview of the TVET College Sector, Responsiveness of TVET Colleges to the world of work, teaching and learning in TVET and TVET College lecture development amongst others.

The Research Colloquium will be addressed by range of local, continental and international expects.
