Deputy Minister Buti Manamela to lead a panel discussion on the National Youth Policy 2015 - 2020

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will lead a panel discussion on the draft National Youth Policy 2015 - 2020 (NYP2020). The panel discussion will be hosted by the University of the Western Cape (UWC) on the topic "The State of Youth in South Africa”.

Deputy Minister Manamela in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency and the South African Youth Council has been consulting young people on the NYP2020 since the release of the draft document on 14 January 2015.

The youth policy formulation process is in line with international obligations for national youth policy formulation such as those of the Southern African Development Community, the African Union and the United Nations.

The United Nations emphasises the need for youth specific country policies and strategies that aim at enabling young people to make the right choices, protect them from exploitation and neglect and ensure their participation in all spheres of society.

"The consultation process on the draft National Youth Policy will ensure that the policy will respond to youth challenges, be evidence based, inclusive and be able to shape young people as agents of change and not just as passive recipients of government services.” said Deputy Minister Manamela.

Through the inputs received the NYP 2015 - 2020 will be the national development agenda for youth composite to the National Development Plan.
