Deputy Minister Buti Manamela hands over cheque to Dignity Dreams, 9 Jul

In 2014 it was estimated that a total of 7 million young women miss school every month in South Africa during their time of menstruation owed to the absence of sanitary towels.

The Office of the Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Buti Manamela and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) have dedicated Mandela Month 2015 to raising awareness about the plight of young females in communities around the country.

By partnering with Dignity Dreams, a non-profit organisation that provides reusable sanitary towels that last up to 5 years and thereby keep girls in school for much longer, the Deputy Minister’s Office and the NYDA will lead the drive to donate 18 000 reusable sanitary pads to school girls who can’t afford to purchase them by 18 July 2015.

The media are hereby invited to attend the first official cheque hand-over by Deputy Minister Buti Manamela towards reaching this goal:
