Deputy Minister, Buti Manamela to engage with high school learners in Cape Town as part of the ‘The Decade of the Artisan’ Programme

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela, MP, will roll out the Decade of the Artisan advocacy campaign in Cape Town, Western Cape on the 27th of September 2023.

The Deputy Minister Manamela will address learners from local high schools at Northlink TVET College under the theme 'It's cool to be a 21st century artisan'. They will further be exposed to a host of exhibitors from industry, SETAs, post-school education and training institutions, NSFAS, and many others.

The aim of the learner engagements is to motivate learners to consider artisanship as a career of choice in the 21st Century as well as share information on critical scarce skills that will advance the economy of the country. About 30 000 artisans should be produced annually by the year 2030 if the country is to advance on the economic development agenda.

The Deputy Minister will also address Life-Orientation (LO) teachers, Community Development Workers (CDWs), and Student Support Services Officers who will be trained to be Artisan Ambassadors.
