The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela, will deliver the closing address at the 2023 instalment of Science Forum South Africa (SFSA).
Taking place at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC), under the theme "Igniting Conversations About Science", this year's forum attracted more than 2 500 people. Despite the three-year absence of an in-person event, the forum remains popular.
Co-hosted by the Department of Science and Innovation and the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa initiative, the SFSA is taking place from 6 to 8 December, with a focus on how science, technology and innovation (STI) can help to address challenges such as climate change, food security, health care and energy.
The programme for SFSA features topical debates and 60 sessions involving leading South African and international scientists, experts and thought leaders under nine subthemes.
Some of these subthemes include: the future of society, technology and democracy; STI-enabling inclusive and sustainable development; economic and science diplomacy; and the use of artificial intelligence in journalism. Approximately 70 exhibitors from national and international organisations will showcase their work on science and innovation.
