At the invitation of the Speaker of the Eastern Cape Legislature Honourable Noxolo Kievit, Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will address the Eastern Cape legislature during the Youth Parliament.
The Youth Parliament is part of the countrywide youth month activities and aims to ensure that South African Youth are provided an opportunity to use their voices to deepen democracy. By participating in law-making, young people will be able to determine the future that they desire for a better South Africa. The Youth Parliament will also provide young people a platform to exercise their leadership as envisaged by the National Development Plan and National Youth Policy 2020.
This year youth month is commemorated under the theme "youth moving South Africa forward" where Deputy Minister has been engaging with young people through various public participation programmes. Through such engagements young people have assured government of their willingness to take South Africa forward. The youth of South Africa have also proclaimed their hope for a better South Africa and committed to play their part in bringing it to fruition.
In this regard, young people from across the Eastern Cape Province will therefore gather at the Raymond Mhlaba Chamber to debate issues pertinent to them under the theme “Empowering Young People towards sustainable youth development”.
Topics for debate will focus on:
- Entrepreneurship and youth
- Youth employment accord
- Youth and rural development
- National Youth Service
