Deputy Minister Bheki Cele launches Food Security Month, 7 Oct

General Bheki Cele to officiate the planting of about 130 000 ha of land to be planted this season countrywide

Agriculture hosts launch of “Food Security Month” by Deputy Minister General Bheki Cele at Amajuba Berrie Farm in Charlestown, Newcastle on 7 October 2015.

The department declared the month of October as “Food Security Month” with an ongoing mandate to elevate the level of awareness on food security issues in communities. 

The launch also signifies readiness of the planting season and is a clarion call for South Africans to participate in food production and awaken farming communities to be prepared in starting all processes related to food production. About 130 000 hectares of land to be planted in the country.

The launch is a partnership with Provincial Departments of Agriculture, under the theme “Umnotho Usemhlabathini, Masibuyele Emasimini/Our soil is our wealth, back to the fields of agriculture”.
