Deputy Minister Andries Nel launches Community Work Programme site in Sol Plaatje Municipality, 14 Jul

The visit is in line with the celebration of International Nelson Mandela Day.

The delegation will also visit Community Work Programme (CWP) projects that are being implemented in the area such as recycling; vegetable garden; cleaning of the cemetery in Green Point. They will then proceed to paint a damaged classroom at Kim-Kgolo Primary School.  The Deputy Minister will also address about 1500 CWP participants who are benefiting from the Programme as well as other members of the community attending the event. 

The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Honourable MEC Alvin Botes; the Executive Mayor of Frances Baard District, Cllr Moloi and the Mayor of Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, Cllr Molusi.

The Community Work Programme is a Government initiative designed to provide an employment safety net to eligible participants by offering them a minimum number of regular days of work each month. The programme targets the unemployed youth, women and people with disabilities.
