CoGTA Deputy Minister to address Western Cape Minister’s and Mayoral Forum

41679Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, Mr Andries Nel will address the Western Cape Minister’s and Mayoral Forum (MinMay). The forum will be chaired by the provincial MEC and attended by mayors and municipal managers of the 30 municipalities across the Western Cape.

The objective of the MinMay is to promote intergovernmental relations between provincial government and municipalities so as to ensure integrated and effective service delivery.

The Deputy Minister’s address will be centered around the future of local government, building resilient towns, cities and communities as espoused in the Integrated Urban Development Framework (IUDF).

The IUDF is a policy initiative of the Government of South Africa, coordinated by the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). The IUDF seeks to foster a shared understanding across government and society about how best to manage urbanisation and achieve the goals of economic development, job creation and improved living conditions for South Africans.

Deputy Minister Nel will also dwell on the Agrarian Revolution as a mechanism to grow the economy, build capacity and ensure food production.
