Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs, Mr Andries Nel will address the media launch of the Metropolis Annual Meeting on:
Date: 14 June 2018
Time: 08h00 - 10h00
Venue: IDC Hall, Nasrec Expo Centre
Premier David Makhura in his capacity as Co-president of World Association of Major Metropolises will host the 2018 Metropolis Annual Meeting from 26th to 29th August at the Sandton Convention Centre, under the theme: “Inclusive Metropolitan Cities and City-Regions”.
Deputy Minister Nel will be addressing the media launch of this important event on the implementation of South Africa’s own Integrated Urban Development Framework (IUDF).
The IUDF marks a New Deal for South African cities and towns. It aims to steer urban growth towards a sustainable model of compact, connected and coordinated towns and cities.
It provides a roadmap to implement the NDP’s vision for spatial transformation – creating liveable, inclusive and resilient towns and cities, while reversing the apartheid spatial legacy.
Recently President Cyril Ramaphosa called for a bolder more ambitious approach to urban and rural development - an Integrated Urban Development Revolution.
