Department of Traditional Affairs signs a Memorandum of Understanding with KARA Heritage Institute and South African Heritage Resources Agency

The Department of traditional Affairs, KARA Heritage Institute and the South African Heritage Recourse Agency will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as follows:

The aim of this MOU is to bring an understanding of the arrangement for the conservation and management of mutually agreed sites associated with traditional and spiritual leaders.

It will also provide clarity on the role and responsibility of SAHRA, KARA and DTA in respect of conservation of heritage resources which are an important chapter of the South African history and of special cultural and religious significance to the traditional and spiritual leadership in South Africa.

The MOU will provide SAHRA and KARA with recommendations for addressing the conservation and management of the sites, as well as providing guidelines on the role of DTA pertaining to the conservation and management of the site through approved projects. Media is invited for media briefing.
