The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) to host the Technology for Women in Business Awards in North West

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), will host the Technology for Women in Business (TWIB) Awards at the Mmabatho Convention Centre in Mafikeng, North West on Thursday, 31 October 2013.

The TWIB Awards gives recognition to outstanding individual accomplishments whilst encouraging women to grow their businesses through innovation and invention.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe says the growth, competitiveness and sustainability of our country depends upon major technological advances and therefore sees the need to acknowledge and celebrate deserving women.

“TWIB provides a network platform for women in business and it links them with other key players in various business industries, and also addresses economic challenges currently facing women’s businesses,” said Thabethe.

She also said one of the major objectives of TWIB is to introduce new science and technology models that can be adopted by women’s enterprises.

The four finalists who will be competing for top honours at the prestigious awards are Ms Kwena Poto of Excellence Motor Trimmers (Pretoria) who manufacture leather seats and roof lining for cars, Ms Dorothy Botsi of Botho Ubuntu Cleaning Services (Midrand), Ms Deliwe Ntebele-Mutuwane of Basadi Gopolang Cooperative (Delareyville), who are into farming, and Ms Tebogo Malema of Bophelo Baka Fitness (eMalahleni), a fitness centre.

The awards will be preceded by the Women Entrepreneurs Conference and Exhibitions that will be hosted early in the day at the same venue.
