Department of Science and Technology set for Mandela Day

Celebrating Nelson Mandela's birthday one day early, the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Advocate Tshililo Masutha, will today at 14h00 hand over food, clothes and books donated by staff to the Sunnyside Drop-in Centre.

The Centre caters for approximately 80 children in need through food parcels, schools fees, school uniforms and stationery. The centre monitors school attendance and progress, and offers access to a library, as well as psychological counselling.

The Nelson Mandela Day campaign calls for people all over the world to make the legacy of South Africa's first democratically elected president live on by giving 67 minutes of their time to helping others in commemoration of the 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted to the service of humanity.

Under the theme “Take action; Inspire change; Make every day a Mandela Day”, this year's campaign focuses on food security, shelter and literacy.

All media are invited to attend.
