The Department of Public Enterprises in partnership with Eskom and Transnet will host a Supplier Development Summit, where the State-Owned Companies (SOC), reporting to the department, will communicate their procurement and supplier development plans for the next three to five years. The summit will be held on the 14 - 15 March 2013 at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.
The keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr. Malusi Gigaba. The Minister of Economic Development, Mr Ebrahim Patel and Trade and Industry Minister, Mr Rob Davies will also be in attendance. Transnet and Eskom will be represented by their Board Chairperson and Chief Executive Officers respectively.
The department developed the Competitive Supplier Development Programme (CSDP), where it recognised that the demand created by SOC in their investment programmes and through their operational spend plays a pivotal role in promoting and/or inhibiting investment in the SOC supply chains.
Launched in 2007, the CSDP ensures that key SOC systematically plan and execute their procurement programmes to stimulate investment in plant, skills and technology and the development of new capabilities in existing, emerging and new suppliers to promote growth, industrialisation and transformation of the economy.
The CSDP also incorporates the systematic alignment of broader Government policy and the mobilisation of resources to further support and incentivise the supplier development process.
Drawing on four years of experience, Eskom and Transnet will also be sharing key lessons learnt from their implementation of the CSDP, in their efforts to promote investment in their supplier communities; and the methodologies they will be utilising going forward to achieve this objective.
