Department of Police, Roads & Transport on gangsterism and human trafficking

The scourge of gangsterism and human trafficking will be under the spotlight during the Department of Police, Roads and Transport Women’s Month events. The Department together with South African Police Service will have information and prayer sessions on 22 August 2013 in Bothaville with mothers/guardians of gangsters since gangsterism affects them in one way or the other.

The objective of this event is:

  • To provide emotional and spiritual support to mothers/guardians of children who are involved in gangsterism;
  • To encourage and provide support to children who are in the exit point of gangsterism;
  • To address the growing scourge of gender based violence and gangsterism in the province and
  • To encourage women to unite and take a stand against the social ills in their communities

The second event will be about Human Trafficking on the 30th August 2013 in Qwaqwa with the aim:

  • To increases awareness about a major global problem currently inflicting injustices on men, women and children;
  • To explore the concept of human trafficking defined as modern day slavery from both a national and international perspective;
  • Examine issues related to survivors of human trafficking;

The issue of safety and security of women in our country is one of the biggest challenges today as more women and children find themselves being victims of crime like rape and exploitation. Some of these crimes are perpetrated by people close to them like their own children, brothers, fathers, etc. who some of them are involved in gangsterism activities.

Since those children are born and raised by mothers, they are normally the most affected by the involvement of their children in gangsterism activities. Some of them are affected directly and others indirectly by bad behaviour their children are doing within the community they are living.
