In its concerted effort to promote the production of vegetables, fruit and flowers as viable commodities and enterprises, the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, launch the vegetable, fruit and flower producers associations in the province. The launch of these associations will be held at Brits, Madibeng Local Municipality, on Thursday, 19 September 2013.
The main objectives of these associations are to represent the interests of the producers by among others, coordinating marketing of their produce and creating a platform for them to share ideas, challenges and experiences. More than 300 vegetables, fruit and flowers producers from around the Province are expected to attend the launch, which will also see the elected Provincial Committee being inaugurated.
The event will be attended by representatives from the national Departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Trade and Industry, who will as part of the launch, engage producers on issues relating to financial assistance and the importance of these commodity associations in the sector.
The North West MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ms Desbo Mohono, says the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by producers during the establishment of the associations at district level earlier this month, gave reasons to believe that the launch of the Provincial Associations will yield abundant fruits.
