Department launches the Provincial Farm Workers and Dwellers Forum

Efforts to chart a new path for farm workers and farm dwellers in the North West Province will be given a boost this weekend, when the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will be launching the first ever Provincial Farm Workers in Agriculture and Rural Development (FDARD) Forum.

The launch which will see the department signing a memorandum of understanding with FDARD committee, will take place on Sunday, 29 September 2013, at Witfontein Farm in Ottosdal.

The FDARD launch follows a series of engagements with Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU), farm workers and dwellers throughout the Province, which looked at ways of improving the relationship between all parties involved, through the establishment of a mutually beneficial developmental programme.

Among the key stakeholders expected to embrace the event that will be attended by farm workers and farm dwellers from across the Province, will be the Human Rights Commission, Department of Labour, Department of Social Development, Women, Children and People with disability.

As MEC for North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms Desbo Mohono puts it, this is in line with the resolutions taken at the national farm workers’ summit and the Vision 2030 National Development Plan, which states that the relations between government, farmers and farm workers should be improved.

Members of the media are invited to the launch that will start at 9h00.
