Dlala Mantombazane Girls Sport Tournament is a multi-coded sport tournament initiated by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation with the aim of:
1) Developing young girls in sport
2) Laying the foundation for a lifelong interest in sport as well as
3) Celebrating Women’s Month.
The tournament is focused on girl learners in schools under the age of 17 years and is a culmination of the district finals that comprise of all the towns in each district. It starts at local schools as intra-schools competitions which proceed until the district competitions. The provincial competitions serve as the selection stage for the National Top Schools Championships held in December.
This year’s edition of the tournament will take place in Thaba Nchu on 9 August 2014, which is Women’s Day. Athletes will take part in the following sport codes:
- Basketball – Under 13 years and Under 17 years
- Football – Under 13 years and Under 17 years
- Chess – Under 13 years, Under 15 years and Under 17 years
- Volleyball – Under 13 years and Under 17 years
The winning school will be taken through the Athlete Development Programme Local at the Talent Development Centre to prepare the team for the National Top Schools Championships where they will represent the province.
Athletes will also have an opportunity to be selected for the R 100 000.00 National Minister Bursary for best performance.

The triple oppression of women also meant that women could not take part in certain activities such as sport. Our radical transformation of society means that we should challenge such bondages”, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs N.S. Leeto asserted.
The Provincial Tournament will take place in Thaba Nchu as follows:
