Department to hand over records management tools to 11 municipalities

The North West for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, China Dodovu, accompanied by MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Tebogo Modise and MEC for Finance, Paul Sebegoe will on Thursday, 13 December 2012, at Mmabatho Civic Centre (at 8h00), hand over records management tools to 11 municipalities in the Province.

Such tools will include computers and stationery that will assist these municipalities to properly record their financial activities for audit purposes.

These municipalities are: Kagisano-Molopo, Naledi, Lekwa-Teemane, Ventersdorp, Maquassi hills, Tswaing, Mahikeng, Moretele, Mamusa, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Madibeng local municipalities.

In June this year, the department launched the Records Management Project with the aim of developing and entrenching a culture of proper records management in municipalities. Its intention is to promote good governance and enhance service delivery through proper records and information management and establish processes, mechanisms and procedures for proper records management that will contribute towards the Clean Audit 2014 objective.

The Records Management Project is the brainchild and championed by the North West Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Department of Finance.

Meanwhile, the department will also officially launch the Municipal Public Accounts Committees (MPACs) that have been established in all 23 municipalities. The primary function of MPACs Is to promote, good governance, transparency and accountability on the use of municipal resources.
