In his June 2014 State of the Nation Address (SONA) President Jacob Zuma announced that this year Mandela Day would be celebrated by working to clean up South Africa. The President encouraged all South Africans to dedicate ‘67 minutes’ of their time to clean South Africa.
The Department of Energy staff members, their principals and senior managers will heed the call to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day by doing community service at Tateni Home Based Care Nursing Services in Mamelodi and Kiddos Day care centre for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Soweto on Friday, 18 July 2014.
The day will be characterised by a number of activities including cleaning of the identified centres, painting of the building, donation of toys and groceries.
NB: Deputy Minister of Energy, Ambassador Thembisile Majola, will make her community service contribution at the Tateni Home Based Care centre in Mamelodi.
