Defence Force visits Ladybrand and Maseru Bridge, 12 to 14 Dec

The South African National Defence Force bi-annual media visit to the borderlines

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF), in particular “Operation CORONA”, is employed in terms of Sec 18(1)(d) of the Defence Act, Act no 42 of 2002 in order to effect National Border Control and defend and protect the Republic of South Africa, its territorial integrity and its people in accordance with the Constitution and the Principles of International Law. This includes curbing all forms of cross-border crimes such as illegal smuggling of dagga, stolen vehicles, and undocumented persons at the borderline with neighbouring countries. 

A media visit to the Ladybrand and Maseru Bridge areas where SANDF soldiers are deployed under “Operation CORONA” has been planned to be hosted over period Tuesday, 12 December 2023 until Thursday, 14 December 2023. The visit will include operational briefings, day and night border patrols with the soldiers and other engagements onsite. The SANDF will provide transportation from Pretoria to the borderline and back including accommodation and meals over the period stated. 

Members of the media are cordially invited to attend and give media coverage of the visit to the borderline. Provision has been made for only a certain number of slots for invitees therefore all RSVP will be accepted against available slots.
