Correctional Services intensifies fight against TB in Correctional Centres
The Department of Correctional Services will launch a high-tech digital X-Ray machine, aimed at intensifying the fight against the scourge caused by Tuberculosis among the increasing offender population at the Pollsmoor Management Area on Monday, 30 March 2015, at 12h00.
Latest statistics released by the Department of Correctional Services indicate that, at Pollsmoor Management Area alone, a total number of 52 737 offenders were screened for Tuberculosis between October 2013 and February 2015. Further, the number of inmates that have been tested for TB was 7 125 between October 2013 and February 2015.
Former Deputy President Kgalema Motlhanthe launched the GeneXpert machine at the Pollsmoor correctional centre on 24 March 2013. Members of the media are invited to the event for photo opportunities and interviews.
