Correctional Services inmates donate blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, 7 Aug

Inmates bring winter warmth to needy communities

Inmates have donated over 700 blankets to keep disadvantaged South Africans warmer during winter.

These blankets were sewn as part of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day - another initiative through which former President Mandela still touches the hearts of South Africans, and makes them aware of the importance of looking after those less fortunate.

The motto of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day is to “Stitch by stitch keep thousands upon thousands of people less fortunate than ourselves warmer over all the winters to come, in the name of our beloved Nelson Mandela”.

As part of ensuring that this programme is effectively and efficiently rolled out to more correctional facilities across the country, DCS will officially launch the partnership on Friday (7 August 2015).Media is invited to attend. Details of the event are as follows:
