Correctional Services hosts its Choral Music Eisteddfod National Championship in Gqeberha, 20 to 21 Sept

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is to host its Choral Music Eisteddfod National Championship from 20 - 21 September 2023 at Feather Market Hall in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province.

This is a significant cultural activity celebrating the musical talents of correctional officials in South Africa. The eisteddfod draws in hundreds of officials from across the 243 centres in the country to compete in this prestigious event. All six (6) regions, namely, Gauteng; Western Cape; Eastern Cape; KwaZulu-Natal; Free State & Northern Cape; and Limpopo, Mpumalanga & North West are to be represented by those who triumphed from the regional eliminations.

The two day competition is divided into three categories, being soli, small ensembles and mixed choirs. Those in attendance will be spoiled for choice, enjoying the brilliance pen of George Gershwin, Mohau Mogale, JSP Motuba, SJ Khosa, WA Mozart and GF Handel. The excellence composition by a Correctional Official based at East London, Mr Gcobani Mbali is also to be celebrated as two of his songs are part of the prescription, selected to quell Gender-Based-Violence and Femicide.

It is a championship never to be missed and is open to the public at a R50 entrance fee which will be donated to the Yokhuselo Haven, a safe house for the victims of domestic violence.
