On 7 July 2013, the Department of Correctional Services will be joining the rest of South Africa and the world in wishing Tata Madiba well by hosting a thanks-giving tribute through song and poetry readings at the Drakenstein (former Victor Vester) Correctional Centre, at 9am, where he has spent the last 18 months in detention.
The event will be a musical extravaganza with members, offenders, as well as a mix of choirs performing, including the Drakenstein Youth Offender Band and poetry reading, paying tribute and speaking to the legacy of the former President of the Republic. The Deputy Minister of Correctional Services, Dr Ngoako Ramatlhodi, and his Human Settlements counterpart, Ms Zou Kota-Fredericks, and former SA Ambassador to the US, Dr Franklin Sonn, will deliver messages of support and tributes to the former statesman.
The media is invited to join the Deputy Ministers of the JCPS Cluster, former SA Ambassador to US, Dr Franklin Sonn, and Correctional Services Regional Commissioner Delekile Klaas, at the house where former President Nelson Mandela was detained, where they will reflect on the time he spent in incarceration.
