Correctional Services host roundtable discussion on establishment of a Corrections Services Learning Academy at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility, 2 Mar
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) will on Thursday, 02 March 2023, host a Roundtable Discussion on the establishment of a Corrections Services Learning Academy at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility.
Correctional Services plans to establish a Corrections Learning Academy aimed at being the ultimate corrections education and training institution for excellence. The Academy will also assist correctional officials to grow and advance their careers, whilst expanding their knowledge within the body of corrections discipline. Training and development of correctional officials has long been a strategic subject of the department and that is evident in the White Paper on Corrections in South Africa.
The roundtable discussion is comprised of experts from academia, private players within the security sector, government institutions and other role actors. A Corrections Learning Academy would contribute towards the professionalisation of corrections as a discipline, thus positioning the Department to its rightful role in building state capacity for a just, peaceful and safer South Africa. In the long term, the aim is for the Academy to have tentacles in Africa and to be the foundation of the Africa University of Corrections.
