Conference for women with disabilities

The Deputy Minister for the Department of Social Development, Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, will host the Conference for Women with Disabilities to be held at the Sun Coast Casino in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The conference aims to provide a platform for disabled women to engage on critical issues facing women with disabilities as well as to inform the planning of programmes at the Department of Social Development.

This year South Africa marks twenty years of democracy. A time to reflect on the achievements and challenges across the board. The area of people with disabilities should not be left behind during this review process. We need to take stock of how far we have come and award those that have achieved in this area. South Africa is also celebrating sixty (60) years of the Women’s Charter of 1954.

It is in the spirit of democracy and Women’s month that the Deputy Minister of Social Development is hosting a Conference for Women with Disabilities. This will be followed by a Gala Dinner on the last day to award those that have achieved in this field of work.

During the 2014 National Budget Vote week, the Department of Social Development declared this year “Disability Year” and put together a task team that will work on the Disability Agenda.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event, scheduled as follows:
Date: 27 to 29 August 2014
Time: 09h00
