Communications celebrates TB Awareness Programme in Worcester, 28 Mar

In celebration of World TB Day, which falls on 24 March annually, the University of Cape Town based South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (SATVI), has joined hands with the Breede Valley Municipality, Cape Winelands District Municipality, Department of Communications, SAFA Winelands and the Provincial Government in hosting a TB Awareness Program in Worcester during March.

The Boland area has one of the highest TB infection rates in the world. As media you are herewith invited to attend the major event that will be held at the Zwelethemba Sport Ground on the 28 March 2015.

Program:

The program, which was launched Saturday, 7 March 2015 includes a (1) Kick TB Soccer Tournament for junior soccer players in the Under 13, 15 and 17 soccer leagues, (2) a Kick TB Schools Program which aims to raise awareness of TB amongst school pupils at 4 schools, will culminate in (3) Awareness raising at Mountain Mill Mall on Friday 27 March and (4) a TB Wellness Expo on Saturday 28 March 2015 at the Zwelethemba Sport Stadium.

The main event on Saturday 28 March will include:

  • Amatekkie 3 km Fun Run
  • SAFA Soccer Teams Play-off between 6 soccer teams in under 13, 15 and 17 leagues
  • Indigenous Games
  • Health Expo with health screening
  • Live entertainment; Kalamawi and Zubernice
  • Exhibitions by government departments and NGO’s
  • Keynote Address by academic

Overview of Programmed for March:

7 March- 20 March 2015: Launch of soccer tournament. During March the teams will play at various soccer fields.

24 March 2015: Schools Kick TB Awareness Program (4 schools)
