Committee Resumes Inquiry into SABC Chairperson's qualifications, 3 Dec

The Portfolio Committee on Communications will tomorrow, 3 December 2014 resume the inquiry into the qualifications of South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board Chairperson, Ms Zandile Tshabalala.

Ms Tshabalala is facing allegations of misrepresenting her qualifications to Parliament. The Committee began the inquiry on 14 October 2014 but resolved to postpone the meeting to 23 October following Ms Tshabalala’s request for more time to study the charges against her. On 23 October 2014, Ms Tshabalala turned to the court and obtained an order to halt the inquiry.

The Western Cape High Court later ruled that Ms Tshabalala’s “order for relief is refused” thereby paving the way for the Committee to proceed with the inquiry. “The court ruling vindicates us because we always held a firm view that the Committee is acting within its powers to institute the inquiry,” said Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee Chairperson.

The inquiry will take place under the following details:
Date: 3 December 2014
Time: 09h30-17h00
Venue: Committee Room V454, Old Assembly Building
