Committee holds seminar on the role of ethics in public life

The Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests will be hosting a one-day seminar on the role of ethics in public life. The purpose of the seminar is to consider the issues of ethics in public life.

The seminar will bring together important stakeholders to discuss the issue. The Public Protector, Auditor General and the Director General of the Public Service Commission will take part in the seminar. The Committee will also invite Portfolio and Select Committees dealing with the public service, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) to attend.

The Committee is currently reviewing the code of conduct for Members of Parliament and hopes that the discussion will be the beginning of a discourse on how different institutions can coordinate their efforts to entrench ethical conduct in the public sector. The Committee further hopes that it can begin to identify the existing weaknesses in the systems and examine what factors undermine effective accountability.

Details for the seminar:

Date: 5 June 2013
Venue: Committee Room M201, Second Floor, Marks Building
Time: 08h00
