CoGHSTA and childline Limpopo partner to raise child abuse awareness

The MEC for Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe in partnership Childline Limpopo will spearhead an awareness campaign on child abuse.

This follows a request by three school principals at the Ga-Mothapo area who sought intervention after realizing escalating cases of abuse on children. The principals are from Ntji Mothapo Primary School, Gerson Ntji Secondary School and Madipuwane Secondary School.

The MEC for CoGHSTA will at this occasion deliver a keynote address to highlight the importance of a society where its children are free from all sorts of abuse. The Anti-Child Abuse Campaign will be held at Ntji Mothapo Primary School. The campaign is themed:  â€śchild abuse is never so painful until it happens to your child, don't look away, act now by supporting the campaign."

The campaign aims to alert the community, parents and learners of what child abuse is, the impact of abuse on children, how to identify abused child, what to do when a child discloses and where and how to report.

Ga Mothapo is where eleven boys were sodomised by the security guard at Ntji Mothapo Primary School and a six year old girl from the same school was raped by her father. High rate of child abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy, drug abuse in the schools are rife.

Child headed families also contribute highly to early sexual engagement as parents are not there to provide guidance which exacerbates behavioral problems such as truancy and theft. government and society have a responsibility to do everything to protect children from people, including their parents, who hurt them.
