The Provincial Department of Human Settlements in a partnership with the Eastern Cape women’s Manyano of Methodist Church will hand over five fully furnished homes in Peddie on 18 September 2014.
The families were identified by the women’s Manyano who then requested the department through its Destitute and Vulnerable Groups programme to help build homes for the poverty stricken. The Church has donated furniture for all the houses.
The request is in-line with the call by the MEC for Human Settlements, Helen Sauls-August for churches, traditional leaders to identify destitute families who have no decent accommodation.
Features of a house built for a destitute family has Internal and External Walls Plastered, waterborne Sewerage (urban), running Water inside the house(urban), bathroom (urban) internal sanitation- VIP or alternative sanitation, rain water Tank in rural, Apron(As per NHBRC Manual), floor Tiling, PVC, fencing of the entire yard, ceiling, specified roof covering, disabled person provision, greening.
The beneficiaries are from Feni and Dabhane Villages and currently living in dilapidating structures. This current financial year, the Destitute and Vulnerable groups programme is a policy priority with a target of 1 770 households.
