NCOP's Public Lecture: Celebrating 20 Years of a Democratic Parliament
The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Mr Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu, will on Tuesday (18 March 2014) deliver a public lecture at the University of Fort Hare in Alice, Eastern Cape.
The NCOP will hold its second Public Lecture under the theme ‘Celebrating 20 years of a democratic Parliament’ aimed at deepening democracy through involvement and engagement of citizens across the different facets of society. The inaugural lecture was held at the University of the Western Cape in February last year.
In promoting democracy, the NCOP utilises diverse platforms to facilitate the sharing of information and to encourage public interest, knowledge and participation in the processes of a democratic South African Parliament.
The NCOP’s partnership with the University of Fort Hare is one of the important relationships that the NCOP will cultivate with institutions around the country that are critical to the growth, development and dissemination of new knowledge and empowerment on a variety of societal issues that have taken centre stage in reforming and re-shaping a post-apartheid South Africa.
Details of the public lecture are as follows:
