CGE and Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

On 22 May 2014 Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) and Inkosi Ngangomhlaba Mantazima the Chairperson of Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL) will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between their respective institutions. The signing of the MoU will take place at 11h00 in Bisho, Offices Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders, Eastern Cape.

The MoU will enhance cooperation between the CGE and ECHTL. Some of the cited areas of cooperation include investigations of complaints, Promotion of customs, indigenous customary laws which seek to uphold gender equality. Through the provisions of the MoU, the CGE will also be empowered to conduct workshops and information sessions at the request of ECHTL

“The Commission for Gender Equality is encouraged by the strides made in relation to the MoU with House of Traditional Leaders. The MoU is nothing but one step towards a working relationship that should benefit the public, especially those communities that are found in far flung areas of South Africa. From this MoU, the CGE intends to promote provisions of the constitutions, through several engagements with ECHTL, said Mr. Mfanozelwe Shozi”
