School Governance takes centre stage as Basic Education launches School Governing Body Election Roadshow

The Department of Basic Education will on Saturday, 7 February 2015 launch the School Governing Body Election campaign with a roadshow at Mphakane Naughty Boys Soccer Grounds in Molemole, Polokwane.

As key governance mechanisms within the schooling system, School Governing Bodies (SGBs) have a significant  role to play around making policies relating to issues such as learner admission, language of instruction at the school, religious instruction, school fees and a code of conduct for learners.

However, it must be noted that SGBs are compelled to make policies that not only allow all South African children to enter the schooling system but promote values of non-racialism, equality between boy and girl learners as well as help communities to respect and tolerate all religions and cultures in our country.
