Basic Education implements Learner Road Safety awareness, 27 May

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) in partnership with Road Traffic Management Corporation and Active Education will commemorate Child Protection Week: Learner Safety, on Wednesday the 27th May 2015 in Zastron, Free State. The theme for this year is “Working Together to Protect Children”.

National Child protection week is commemorated annually in South Africa to raise awareness of children’s rights. The rollout of the Scholar patrol Programme is the Department of Education’s contribution towards Child Protection Week.

The DBE will endeavour to intensity efforts to establish Road Safety Teams and to create awareness on pedestrian safety at 20 identified schools. 18 schools in Zastron, Rouxville and Smithfield have been targeted for the establishment of scholar patrol teams, training and provisioning of equipment from Active Education, sponsored by Regent Insurance.
