As the world pauses to salute and celebrate the birthday of a fallen hero, an icon and a world leader, the Department of Basic Education will mark the occasion with the handover of Nginza.
The school will be handed over by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education Enver Surty on Friday 18 July in the Hlabatshane Administration Area of Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.
There is no secret as to the importance and value the late Madiba placed on education and on the investement in children. Through ASIDI the Department of Basic Education has identified a total of 496 mud/inappropriate structures that are set to be replaced as part of the ASIDI Natioanl Output plan that will in addition see the provision of water and sanitation to 1 257 schools and electricity to 878 schools, benefiting a total of 12 450 learners the bulk of whom are in the Eastern Cape.
To date the department has seen more than 60 schools reach practical completion and in excess of 45 handed over by the Department since the birth of ASIDI in 2011.
