Awards to honour the country’s top Bio-entrepreneurs

The Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom will deliver a keynote address at the Gauteng Accelerator Programme–Biosciences Awards to be held at the Innovation Hub, Pretoria on 6 December 2012 from 18h30.

The GAP-Biosciences project isa collaboration between the Innovation Hub (an agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development) and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia whose main objective is to develop entrepreneurial skills to accelerate the establishment of viable biosciences start-up companies. It focuses on the transfer of essential business skills to biosciences researchers and postgraduate students thus increasing prospects for biosciences start-ups to contribute to socio-economic development in the areas of agriculture, health and industrial biotechnology.

Minister Hanekom and the MEC for Gauteng Department of Economic Development, Nkosiphendule Kolisile will announce the prize winners.

The winning team will receive R400 000 cash prize towards starting their business, free incubation for a year at the Innovation Hub, continued mentorship, and business support for a year.
