Arts and Culture supports Africa Motherland festival, 22 to 25 May

The Department of Arts and Culture supports the Africa Motherland Festival as part of the programme of activities for Africa Month under the theme, ‘We are Africa - Opening the doors of learning and culture to promote peace and friendship from Cape to Cairo’. The festival will take place from 22 to 25 May 2015 at Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal.

The Africa Motherland Festival is an annual event which brings together communities to celebrate their African culture through a range of arts programmes that promote social cohesion and heritage preservation. The festival is also in line with the Department of Arts and Culture’s Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) strategy, whose objectives include creating jobs as well as optimising the economic potential of the arts sector. 

The festival is celebrated through unique festivities of theatre, diverse music, dance, poetry, food, craft and film will encompass the participation of different African countries such as Ethiopia, Egypt, Mali and Zimbabwe.
