Arts and Culture launches nation building and social cohesion community conversations at the Floreat Hall in Bloemfontein

The Director-General of the Department of Arts and Culture, Mr Sibusiso Xaba will launch the programme for the nation building and social cohesion community conversations on Thursday, 4 September 2014 at the Floreat Hall; Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein.

In the year 2012, government hosted the National Social Cohesion Summit in Kliptown, Johannesburg. Government decided to intensify the hosting of dialogues and community conversations throughout the country.

The Launch will be hosted under the theme “Transforming Society, Uniting the Country’’. The opening remarks will be followed by a panel discussion. The discussions will include representatives from a range of organisation including CONTRALESA, representatives from the Interfaith Community, the Human Rights Commission, Social Cohesion Advocates and other sectors.

The theme itself is informed by Chapter 15 of the National Development Plan and Outcome 14 of the medium Term Strategic Framework adopted by government. The community conversations programme will be rolled out in all nine provinces with the aim of preparing for the Social Cohesion Report Back Summit.
