Department of Arts and Culture will launch the Resource Management Agency (RMA) on 28 November 2012 at the CSIR International Convention Centre.
The agency will be responsible for managing and distributing reusable text and speech resources for research and development purposes to potential users in academia and industry. The Centre for Text Technology (CTexT) at North-West University has been appointed to set up the agency over the next three years. Since 2007, North West University through CTexT has been one of our most dependable language technology implementation agencies.
Researchers and developers will be able to obtain and provide data more easily. South African languages are deemed resource scare, the department aspires to make data resources for these languages more readily.
Through this initiative the department aims to escalate access to information and services in their languages of choice, and language technology plays a vital role. It will assist government in the execution of its strategy to the benefit of all role players in the communication domain and ultimately the general public.
