Accreditation for national thanksgiving ceremony

His Excellency, President Jacob Zuma, together with Social Development Minister, Ms Bathabile Dlamini and some Members of the Cabinet will meet representatives of the faith-based sector in continuing with the 2014 theme of celebrating the country’s 20 Years of Freedom.

Historically, in South Africa, the church and religious organisations have played a key role in the fight against racial discrimination and domination.

Since 1994 the various religious communities in South Africa have been at the centre of the continued fight against a number of social challenges including building social cohesion, reducing poverty and inequality, moral regeneration, fighting substance abuse and violence against women and children.

The aim of this celebration is to thank the faith-based sector for the work they continue to do in building a better South Africa. Through the celebration, government also seeks to build a stronger, more dynamic and productive partnership between itself and faith-based organisations, united behind a common goal of moving the country forward in line with Vision 2030, as mapped out in the National Development Plan.
