102 year old to receive furniture from Social Development

The plight of older persons is a fundamental aspect for the Department of Social Development. Therefore honouring older persons on the contributions they have made in society is a standing activity for Social Development.

On Mandela Day in 2013, the Department of Cooperative Governance, Housing and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) identified the need to build a decent house for Mr David Koopman aged 102 from the Bendell Village near Kuruman, after it was brought to their attention of the conditions in which Mr Koopman was living.

The Department of Social Development then pledged to ensure that furniture will be provided to Mr Koopman in order to ensure that he can live a dignified and comfortable life.

The handing over of the furniture to Mr Koopman will be celebrated with 250 older persons from the Bendell and Deurham villages from the Joe Morolong Municipality in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

The furniture will be handed over by the MEC for Social Development, Ms Tiny Chotelo.

Date: 4 December 2013
Venue: Bendell Village, John Taolo Gaetsewe District
Time: 11h00

The media is hereby cordially invited to the celebration of the new home and furniture of David Koopman.
