Gauteng seeks new ways to celebrate National Days

In its effort to come up with new ways of celebrating and commemorating National Days, the Gauteng Provincial government will tomorrow, Wednesday October 31, host a consultative workshop with different interest groups including religious, political, youth and women groups; labour, business and civil society among others.

The workshop is aimed at getting inputs on the draft discussion document on Gauteng National Days which will later also be forwarded to national government for consideration.

"We want every citizen of Gauteng and ultimately South Africa to have ownership of the national days and for each day to have a meaning to all. This, we believe will assist in everybody realising the importance of observing the identity of South Africa and its people".

"National Holidays form part of National Symbols such as the National Flag and the Coat of Arms" says MEC Lebogang Maile.

Delegates at the workshop will not only have a chance to interrogate the discussion document but to also suggest new ways.

"The outcome of the workshop must be able to help inform a new direction government wants to take in the building of new citizenry which proud to be associated with the triumphs of South Africa and cares for the country and its people" added MEC Maile.
