The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) to hold a Sector Parliament for People with Disabilities

Honourable Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Gender, Youth and People with Disabilities (GEYODI) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Ms. Lindiwe Lasindwa, invites all Members of the media to the Sector Parliament for People with Disabilities, which is in continuation of commemorating 16 Days of Activism for No violence Against Women and Children Campaign, which is scheduled as follows:

GEYODI derives its mandate from the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. It serves to ensure gender equality and condemn all forms of discrimination and Human Rights violation in the Gauteng Province. This is through making laws and overseeing the work of Gauteng Government Departments to ensure the consistent application of equality measures for Women, Men, the Youth, People with Disabilities, Gays and Lesbians in all Government activities and service delivery.

The Committee also creates public participation opportunities for the People of Gauteng to express their concerns and mandate GEYODI to address their issues.

The Sector Parliament for People with Disabilities aims to create a platform to discuss challenges facing the rights of People with Disabilities in relation to their meaningful contribution in the political, social, economic and cultural spheres of our society.

In participation to the Sector Parliament will be: Civil Society Organisations representing People with Disabilities; Disability Offices from Institutions of Higher Learning and Municipalities from across the Province and other formations to this Sector Parliament.
