Gauteng Provincial Government, partners hold Anti-Corruption Summit

In keeping with the resolve to deal swiftly and effectively with corruption - both within the private and public sectors, the Gauteng Provincial Government has partnered with civil society organisations and municipalities in the province to host the Anti-Corruption Summit on Wednesday, 24 November 2010. The summit, to be addressed by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane leaders of business, trade union movement, Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele, and other civil society organisations, will craft a holistic approach to the fight against corruption in the province.

The need to form partnerships against corruption was born out of the realisation that corruption is a societal problem and not just the preserve of the government - it involves the corrupter and the corrupted.

Accordingly, the successful fight against the scourge of corruption will be highly dependent on better working relations between all stakeholders.

The key objectives of the summit are:

  • To develop a common plan of action and social mobilisation against corruption involving government, labour, business and other civil society sectors
  • To forge a social compact/ integrity alliance in the fight against corruption, fraud and unethical behavior and in building an ethical society
  • To share knowledge, experiences, strategies and best practice in the fight against corruption
  • To raise public awareness on the role of various sectors and individuals in the fight against corruption and the building of an ethical society
  •  To launch the Gauteng Anti-Corruption Strategic Framework (government's commitment).
