Gauteng Provincial Government to host Economic Recovery Summit

The Gauteng Provincial Government will be hosting the Gauteng Economic Recovery Summit on Thursday, 12 November 2009, at the Birchwood Hotel, Ekurhuleni.

One of the key purposes of this Summit is to engage role-players such as business, labour, civil society and all spheres of government with the aim of agreeing on strategic interventions to create employment and conditions for accelerated growth and development in Gauteng.

Gauteng remains the powerhouse of South Africa's economy. The recovery of the South African economy therefore depends, to a large extent, on the performance of Gauteng's economy. It is imperative for government and all role-players to work together to respond effectively to the immediate economic challenges and create conditions for sustainable growth and development in the medium to long term.

The Premier of Gauteng, Nomvula Mokonyane, will deliver the key note address at the Summit and other speakers include Firoz Cachalia, Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Ntombi Mekgwe, Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Jerry Vilakazi, CEO of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), Phutas Tseki Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Gauteng Provincial Chairperson.

The details of the Summit are as follows:

Date: 12 November 2009
