Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) reinforces its efforts to reduce child-swimming pool drowning

As part of the Water Safety Programme the Gauteng Provincial Government in partnership with Swimming South Africa will be hosting a Swimathon in Soweto this weekend. This is in response to unabated child and adult incidents of drowning in and around Gauteng.

The Swimathon involves a competition amongst 125 swimmers from the disadvantaged areas.

An array of activities including, coaching clinics, water safety demonstrations etc will be part of programme which will see the likes of Natalie Du Toit in attendance.

The entire Water safety campaign consists of Learn-to-swim lessons for children in schools, the community and the Development of clubs at swimming pools.

The rollout of the programme also include swimming lesson in Gauteng Municipal functional swimming pools where Swim South Africa will deploy instructors
